Catarina is a lawyer in the firm's Tax practice area, with extensive experience in resolving tax disputes and tax litigation - both in the judicial/arbitral and administrative phases - as well as in monitoring tax inspections, representing a significant number of national and multinational companies, as well as individual clients, in all types of taxes.

Before joining MFA, Catarina worked with SRS Legal in the tax practice area, having previously worked for Garrigues Portugal, adding up to more than ten years of professional experience.

Catarina is also a member of CAAD's list of arbitrators (tax arbitration), a collaborator at NOVA's research center - Tax Research Lab, a correspondent for the IBDF - International Bureau of Fiscal Documentation (Netherlands) for Portugal and an author for O Informador Fiscal.

Catarina has represented large clients in highly complex tax litigation cases, including:

  • Representing several insurance companies and banks in corporate income tax, VAT and stamp duty litigation in Portugal
  • Representing companies based in the Madeira Free Trade Zone in State aid matters
  • Representing companies and individual clients in particularly complex property tax matters
  • Advising and representing individual clients (“high-net worth individuals”) on various matters

She is the author of several articles on tax issues and regularly collaborates with various platforms dedicated to this area of expertise, namely Nova Tax Research Lab, O Informador Fiscal and IBFD, with the following recent publications standing out:
